10 Things (Other Than Money) Used To Purchase Footballers

9. Gary Pallister - Football Kits, A Bag Of Footballs & A Goal Net

The Transfer: Billingham Town (England) to Middlesbrough (England). The Year: 1984. The Fee: A set of football kits, a bag of footballs and a goal net. Gary Pallister had two very productive spells with his boyhood heroes Middlesbrough - the second of which came after a highly-decorated career at Manchester United, twenty-two England caps and cost the Teesside club £2.5 million when his former Old Trafford team-mate Bryan Robson signed him - but his first move there was decidedly less glamorous. Whilst plying his trade in the Northern League with Billingham Town, he was spotted by Boro at the age of nineteen. A transfer to the club ensued, with a set of football kits for Billingham Town, a bag of footballs and a new goal net heading in the opposite direction.
