10 Things Roy Keane Wants You To Forget

5. He Slated His Team-Mates Which Led To His Man Utd Departure

During his playing career and beyond, Roy Keane has never been one to hold his tongue. The Irishman would think nothing of snarling at his manager, supporters, club officials, the press or his own team-mates. The only one who ever seemed safe from his wrath was his beloved dog Triggs. Keane€™s Old Trafford exit was the culmination of many issues, but the straw that broke the camel's back came during an MUTV appearance where he slated several of his team-mates - so bad was it, the footage never actually aired. As Keane was his captain, Alex Ferguson took huge exception to this. Man Utd had lost 4-1 to Middlesbrough in early November 2005, and Keane would harshly pan the performances of Darren Fletcher, Kieran Richardson, John O€™Shea, Alan Smith and Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand in particular felt Keane€™s wrath, as the skipper would say, €œJust because you are paid £120,000 a week and play well for 20 minutes against Tottenham, you think you are a superstar.€ Only a couple of weeks later, Keane would come to an agreement with the Old Trafford hierarchy to cancel his contract, resulting in him officially leaving the club on the 18th November, 2005.
