10 Things Roy Keane Wants You To Forget

4. He Publicly Slagged Off Man Utd€™s Home Support

Whilst pundits and rival fans regularly poke fun at the atmosphere at the Etihad and the Emirates, Roy Keane thought nothing of openly criticising his own club€™s fans. After a December 2000 Champions League win over Dynamo Kyiv at Old Trafford, Keane decided to remark about how poor the home fans were during periods of the game where Utd were under the cosh. And in typical Keano fashion, subtle was not the approach that he took. Not even sandwich filling preferences were safe! Keane€™s exact words on the Old Trafford support were:
€œAway from home our fans are fantastic. I€™d call them the hardcore fans. But at home they have a few drinks and probably the prawn sandwiches, and they don€™t realise what€™s going on out on the pitch. I don€™t think some of the people who come to Old Trafford can spell €˜football€™, never mind understand it.€
In fairness, Keane did actually have a point to an extent, but it€™s never great when your captain comes out and bashes your own fans, causing a split between the casual United fans and the so-called hardcore fans.
