10 Things You Can Only Experience At A UFC Live Event

6. The 'Just Bleed' Fans

Remember the "Just Bleed" guy? If you don't, you're missing out on one of MMA's longest running memes. Back at UFC 15 in 1997, UFC fan James Ladner painted U-F-C on his forehead, and "Just Bleed" across his chest, underlined by a Nike-inspired swoosh. The cameras caught him at just the right moment, mean mugging and flexing and no doubt several beers into the evening.

For years to follow, Ladner was part of any number of promo shots, highlight reels, and animated GIFs. Though just about no one knew his name, he was the most recognizable fan of the sport.

That wasn't exactly great news, mind you, especially with the UFC trying to shift its image from "human cockfighting" to a legitimate sporting contest.

Ladner, interestingly enough, is long since removed from his "Just Bleed" days and appreciates that fighters are better protected in the modern era. Yet if you're attending a UFC event live, you'll find plenty of fans who still want nothing but a blood bath.

You'll get the yells of "knock him out" and "finish him" in the opening seconds of a bout, or people complaining about stoppages for low blows, eye pokes, and lost mouth guards.

The UFC has come a long way since its inception, but the fandom hasn't entirely caught up. Our best advice, just tune them out.
