10 Training Ground Feuds You Probably Didn't Know About

1. Jens Lehmann And Manuel Almunia

It's not uncommon for rival goalkeepers to develop something of an uneasy relationship. With the coveted number one jersey truly an all-or-nothing position, goalkeepers will ruthlessly try and unsettle their counterparts in a bid to gain theupper hand. For example, former England keeper David James has admitted treating Brad Friedel with something of a cold shoulder during their time at Anfield, while former PSV No. 2 Ronald Waterreus had a myriad of tricks up his sleeve to ensure that his rival slept badly before games. Thus, it is probably no surprise that the eccentric Jens Lehmann didn't have much time for the man trying to deprive him of his living.
''I'm an easy-going person. I like to treat everyone with respect and I see everyone as equals. I treat people the way I would like to be treated myself. To have someone here who hates me is just amazing. I know he hates me.'' - Manuel Almunia, April 2008.
Lehmann had certainly not hid his disdain for the Spaniard, whether genuine or forged as an unsettling tactic. Having been ousted from the starting XI, the German was quick to publicly heir his disapproval at the apparent 'humiliation', stating that Almunia 'hasn't shown he can us matches just yet'. Directing another jibe that 'to be sitting on the bench behind somebody who only started to play when he was 30 is not funny' was also surely designed to get under his colleague's skin.
''Every morning I wake up. I know it is going to b the same. I've had to put upwith it every day since he was out of the team and even before then. He an say what he likes.I come into training and I work with Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone. They are better goalkeepers than him anyway.'' - Manuel Almunia, April 2008.
One can only assume Manuel wasn't too enamoured by the boisterous German's return to the club in 2011. Which other training ground feuds deserve to be on this list? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
