10 UFC Bloodbaths You Need To See

10. Roy "Big Country" Nelson vs Fabricio Werdum

Event: UFC 143 This one may is a total cheat, but it honestly is worthy of inclusion based on the grotesque gash a Werdum knee opened up on the face of Roy Nelson. It was Fabricio Werdum's first fight back in the octagon in years, after his brutal knockout loss to Junior dos Santos, and in his time away he became the first person to defeat the Last Emperor, Fedor Emelianenko. Coming back in 2012 he was paired up against The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 winner Roy "Big Country" Nelson, otherwise known as the immovable object, or the man with the indestructible chin. No one, to date, has knocked Big Country out in the UFC, though many have tried. His toughness is legendary, and it looked like Nelson would have a chance against the Jiu-jitsu wizard Werdum, as Nelson holds a black belt of his own in BJJ. Well, Werdum did indeed get him down - and was unable to submit him. He was also unable to knock him out, but the same can be said of Junior Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Stipe Miocic, and Daniel Cormier, so Werdum is in good company there. What he did do, however, was put an impressive beating on one of the toughest heavyweights around - and in the process open up the wound you see above on Nelson's face from a crushing knee in the first round. Which didn't even seem to slow Nelson down. Werdum picked up the win, and both fighters were awarded the Fight of the Night, but the returning Brazilian was probably wondering if he had to throw the kitchen sink at Nelson, literally, to knock him out. Nelson had a good sense of humour in defeat, tweeting the photo above after the fight along with the comment "Here is the cut from me head butting Werdum's knee in the 1st. My face is fine, forehead is a little sore."
