10 UFC Bloodbaths You Need To See

9. Junior Dos Santos vs Shane Carwin

Shane CarwinEvent: UFC 131 After losing to Brock Lesnar while challenging for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 116, Share Carwin was looking to get another crack at the belt, having dominated the first round of the Lesnar fight only to gas and get taken down and submitted in the second round. At UFC 131, he was expected to face Jon Olav Einemo - a fight that, frankly, would have been a walk in the park for Carwin at that point, as Einemo was just entering the UFC. Then the MMA gods got up to their old tricks. Brock Lesnar, having lost his belt to Cain Velasquez, had been scheduled to face Junior dos Santos in a title eliminator to get another crack at the belt at UFC 131; it was the culmination of JDS and Lesnar's time as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, where they showed a healthy respect for each other. Without any trash talk or bad blood, this was the be the ultimate clash of striker vs. wrestler. Only Lesnar had his diverticulitis return, leading to surgery that removed a foot of colon. Carwin was elevated to the main event with Dos Santos, which became a three-round beat down where the Brazilian heavyweight and stand-out puncher used the much slower Carwin for target practice. The end result? A three-round beating (non-title main events were still three rounds in those days), and the very last appearance of Carwin in the octagon. Though he would coach a season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite Big Country, he would pull out of the coach's fight, and never fight in the UFC again.
