5. Miguel Angel Nadal
In the late 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister were the bedrock of the Manchester United defence. In 1996 Bruce left and Ferguson was left searching for a replacement and decided that The Beast of Barcelona Nadal was his man. A fearsome defender worthy of the moniker, Nadal was a Spanish international and a key member of Barcelonas star studded squad. Nadal was seemingly close to a move to Old Trafford before Barca realised they were making a massive mistake in letting him go and pulled the plug at the last minute.
