11 Liverpool Premier League Signings Who Proved To Be Bargains

10. Luis Garcia

When Luis Garcia moved to Anfield from Barcelona in the summer of 2004, he was a relatively unknown quantity. He had been a fringe player at Camp Nou, known for being somewhat unpredictable at times. By the time he left Liverpool, he had gained a heroes status and more than justified his price tag. The then 26-year-old took a little bit of time to settle in- his lack of physical prowess made it hard for him to adjust to the pace and power of the Premier League at first- but once he got a few months under his belt he flourished. The diminutive Spaniard was solid in the league, but it was in the Champions League that he came alive, in what proved to be Liverpool's most unforgettable season ever in Europe. In the knockout stages Garcia scored three goals over two legs against Bayer Leverkusen in the last-16, while in the quarter-final first-leg against Juventus he scored a stunning long-range effort to put Benitez's side 2-0 up. Against Chelsea in the semis, his infamous 'ghost goal' proved to be the difference, and he also played in the incredible win over AC Milan in the final. A year later he scored a superb effort in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, as Liverpool went on to win more silverware. The Spaniard could frustrate at times by being overly flamboyant on the ball, but his exploits in 2004/05, coupled with numerous other memorable moments, means he holds a special place in the hearts of all Reds fanatics.
