12 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Sunderland

12. Rory Delap

Rory Delap shot to fame at Stoke for his freakish ability to hurl a ball for miles from throw ins. It was a Premier League phenomenon and played an instrumental part in the Potters' survival and establishment in the top flight. But before Stoke, he was at Sunderland, and where was his throw then? Delap featured during the Black Cats' record low season, making 12 appearances overall for Sunderland, though he made little to zero impact on the slide, and rarely ever deployed his trademark move. That level of team-wide capitulation would've been enough to finish many careers, but somehow Delap wriggled free and detached himself completely from the Sunderland mess before heading to Stoke where he became an icon.
