Wimbledon is now known as one of the most historic and celebrated sporting events around the world, and is watched on TVs by hundreds of millions of people. However, when it comes to its TV audience, it does own a little bit of history from the 1960s. Back in 1967 it became the first ever event to be broadcast in colour in the UK, airing live on BBC2. This helped lead to a greater interest in colour television, and while BC2 was initially the only channel showing such programmes, the success led to BBC1 and ITV following suit. It wasnt the last time that Wimbledon would pave the way for new technologies in TV either, as in 2011 it became the first ever programme to be broadcast by the BBC in 3D.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
