15 Worst Ever Sunderland Premier League Signings

13. Jack Rodwell

Okay, so here's a controversial one. Jack Rodwell has talent. Everton fans have seen it. Jack Rodwell has strength. Everton fans have seen it. Jack Rodwell can be a gane-changer. Everton fans have seen it. But Sunderland fans haven't. Rodwell cost a staggering amount of money. £10 million. In modern times where players will frequently switch for double, triple, quadruple that fee, it's easy to forget that it's a huge amount of money for Sunderland, the fourth highest amount the club has ever splashed out. But now, being brutally honest, what have the fans seen from him? Nothing to suggest he's worth any more than an average Premier League midfielder that's for sure. Jack Colback left on a free transfer, and his eight-figure replacement has turned out to look like a less-accomplished, more injury prone option. He has headed in a couple of goals, and he's certainly not the worst player Sunderland have had, but he NEEDS to be doing more. Following the injury to the influential Lee Cattermole, the midfield looked lost. It was a perfect time for Rodwell to step up, but he didn't. A big improvement is needed to justify his price tag.
