An impressive World Cup campaign for Chile (crowned by a magnificent finish to knock reigning champions Spain out in the group stages) had many predicting an anxiously-awaited improvement for Eduardo Vargas, a young Napoli striker plagued by various unsuccessful loan deals. However, he instead found himself loaned out once more, this time to Harry Redknapp's ragtag group of West London mercenaries.
