For a lot of younger fans, it's a shame that they haven't been able to see players like Dutch midfield maestro Ronald de Boer display his talents at Ibrox Stadium. It was a sign of how much clout Glasgow Rangers had worldwide during the late-90's that the free-scoring midfielder would eventually put pen to paper on a fresh new contract with the club in the year 2000. Joining from Barcelona, de Boer was best known for an incredibly successful 6-year stint at Ajax in Holland, a period during which he would win the UEFA Champions League and a smattering of Dutch Eredivisie titles. A single season stay in Spain had only produced a solitary strike for the player, but it was hoped that he could show his form for Rangers both in the Scottish game and - crucially - on the European stage. Rangers wouldn't really make their mark in Europe, even with Ronald de Boer, but oh what a player he was. More often than not, it seemed he was a few steps ahead of his team mates, and it was a sheer joy to watch the wheels of his natural football brain turning. During his 4 years as a Rangers, de Boer became a solid favourite, churning out top class performances on a weekly basis.
