In a 2013 training session at Manchester United's Carrington base, Wayne Rooney was accidentally caught in the face by team-mate Phil Jones and suffered a deep gash to his forehead, proving that you don't have to be playing in a competitive match to receive a nasty injury. He missed two England games - against Moldova and Ukraine - and posted pictures of the injury on Facebook. He also suffered a gashed thigh when Fulham's Hugo Rodellaga struck him whilst trying to shoot in 2012 - a wound that required 24 stitches.
