20 Players Rangers Must Regret Signing

16. Jon Daly

Similar to Cammy Bell, Jon Daly is the kind of player who would have struggled to be a regular reserve at Rangers traditionally. Lumbering and clearly not the most athletic of strikers, the big Irishman did try his best during his seasons at Ibrox, but he looked out of sorts against all but the slowest of part-time sides in the lower divisions. The premise behind signing him was sound - Ally McCoist clearly felt he would provide a good target-man option up top for the team, and the fact Daly could also play in defence must have been appealing, but try as he might, he wasn't up to scratch. Pressure to win every game will always be prevalent at Ibrox, regardless of where the club finds itself, and Jon Daly is the kind of player who can't cope with that mentality. Throughout his career, the big guy has been more used to mediocrity with teams like Dundee United, where occasional losses and draws are accepted as part and parcel of the game. At Rangers, that line of thinking doesn't cut it, and it's no secret that Jon was frozen out of the team due to his lack of ability during the 2nd portion of the 2014-2015 campaign.
