20 Players Rangers Must Regret Signing

17. Lionel Letizi

In fairness to Cammy Bell, at least he has had decent games for Rangers, something the Frenchman Lionel Letizi simply couldn't claim. A focal point of the bumbling (but thankfully brief) Paul Le Guen era at the club from August 2006-January 2007, Letizi didn't exactly inspire confidence during his handful of appearances in goal at Ibrox. Mistakes against the likes of Dunfermline (allowing them a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home) and Inverness Caledonian Thistle (in a shock 1-0 win for the Highland minnows) summed up his inability to play for a team the size of Glasgow Rangers. Sure, he was PSG keeper for 6 years, but they weren't quite the outfit they are now back during the early years of the millennium. Even after sitting on the sidelines through injury and watching Allan McGregor prove to be a far more solid choice as goalkeeper, Letizi was re-installed to the side by Le Guen upon regaining his fitness, but when Walter Smith returned to the club in early-2007, he was deemed surplus to requirements. Few Rangers fans were sad to see the back of the clumsy goalie, who proved more of a hindrance than anything else, despite his high wage.
