16. Rui Miguel
http://youtu.be/fdK0fXi1qTM Picture the scene - a deep cross has come into the box, every single player has missed the flight of the ball including the goalkeeper, and you are left standing virtually on the line to steer this ball home. Rui Miguel could have just stood still and claimed a goal he was that close. But somehow in lifting his leg up slightly was able to send the ball skywards over the bar at the solitary angle that would have prevented him from scoring. If he'd missed contact with the ball it would have been embarrassing, but the fact that he made full contact with the ball and managed to scoop it over the bar is a skill that many don't possess, and one footballers often don't want to possess. 15. Yakubu
http://youtu.be/HPG2JvrtJdQ In Nigeria's woeful performance at the 2010 World Cup, one man was determined to make his mark. And if he couldn't do it by being great due to the failings of the rest of his teammates, he would make a name for himself by being the absolute worst. Yakubu, a player well known to the English football fans due to his stints at Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Everton, stunned a worldwide audience by tapping a shot past the outside of the South Korean post with the whole of the net gaping open. The importance of this moment in contributing to the fall of Nigeria at the first hurdle from the first African World Cup was paramount, and many consider this to be the worst miss in World Cup history. Well, at least during an actual game that is.
