20 Worst Squads In FIFA World Cup History
13. Mexico (1930)
As the second and final squad from the first ever World Cup to make the list, Mexico are another unexpected addition to the list. Subjectively, Mexico have rarely (if ever) been a particularly poor side, but when analysing the stats it seems they have participated in a few wholey forgettable World Cup campaigns.
Given the era in which this tournament was played, the nations Mexico were drawn against for the World Cup group stages were incredibly formidable. Almost consistent powerhouses of international football in France and Argentina were drawn against Mexico, with hot and cold South American nation, Chile, taking up the final spot. Mexico played France in the first ever World Cup match, which saw them face the brunt of 1-4 defeat, before being defeated 0-3 by Chile three days later and concluding their campaign with a 3-6 battering at the hands of eventual runners-up, Argentina.
Mexico are actually the highest scoring team on this list with four goals. Sadly, they also conceded 13 in the process, which stood as a record for most goals conceded by a single team in the World Cup for almost 25 years.
