A huge player for Wimbledon from 1994-2001, Marcus Gayle is another striker who should have been tailor-made for Ibrox. Nobody can blame Dick Advocaat for taking a punt on the big Englishman, he did cost a paltry £1 million, which was peanuts for Rangers at the time, and he had shown he could score during his time with Wimbledon. The idea was sound, Gayle joined in March, and could reignite the title challenge for Rangers by providing more fire power up front. Instead, the lumbering centre forward did little to show he had anything to offer, only clocking 4 games, all without any goals. Marcus Gayle would only last a few months with Rangers, who paid him wages to sit and find another club in the Summer of 2001, something he'd eventually do, hooking up with Watford during the transfer window. In reality, Gayle has nobody to blame but himself for why his move to the Gers didn't go to plan.
