25 Worst Premier League Signings Ever

8. Bruno Cheyrou

I'm going to cut this guy some slack; it's pretty difficult to live up to the tag €œThe new Zinedine Zidane€ when you're only twenty-four years old, and it'd be a burden on any player's back. Unfortunately for the French midfielder, this moniker was bestowed upon him by then-Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier as soon as he signed for the Merseyside club.

It was almost as if he was destined not to succeed; as soon as the comparison was made, Cheyrou struggled at Anfield. He was expected to add goals and intelligence from midfield, but he was instead quickly found out to be physically weak, and low on workrate. The pressure was simply just too intense, and as soon as Rafael Benitez took the reigns at Anfield, he was quickly offloaded back to France.

Four years at the club, and only fourty-eight appearances ultimately proved that the €œnew Zidane€ was a major flop.
