25 Worst Premier League Signings Ever

4. Tomas Brolin

It's a shame Tomas Brolin fell so quickly and so spectacularly, because for a brief period of time between 1990 and 1994, he really was one of the best players in the world. Leeds must have thought they were dreaming when he agreed terms on a £4m deal to bring him to Elland Road in 1995. The dream however, quickly escalated into a nightmare.

Brolin arrived at the club overweight and out of form, having been dogged with an ankle injury for the previous twelve months. The Swedish playmaker believed he was still world class however, and believed it was his right to dictate where he should play on the pitch, irrespective of injuries or suspensions to the rest of the team. Having been played on the wing for a match against West Ham, he decided, in his own words, that he would be €œpiss poor€ against the next opponents, Liverpool. Leeds lost 5-0, and a still-overweight Brolin found himself playing in the reserves.

He left Leeds in 1997, with four goals and nineteen appearances to his name, and never managed to regain the fitness levels of his glory days; undertaking a comical assistant-manager role at Crystal Palace before retiring at 28.
