25 Worst Premier League Signings Ever

5. Marco Boogers

Harry Redknapp's signing of the Sparta Rotterdam player for £1m in 1995 will probably go down as one of the most bizarre transfers in Premier League history. Despite having never actually seen him play, only going from video evidence, Redknapp happily shelled out the cash to bring the Dutch striker to the Boleyn Ground.

In only his second appearance for the Hammers, he came on as a second half substitute only to be immediately sent off for a rib-high €œhorror tackle€ on Manchester United's Gary Neville. After receiving a suspension for his actions, Boogers promptly disappeared and was reportedly discovered living in a mobile caravan park in his native Holland. Despite his protestations of €œI'm not mental€ he was shipped to FC Groningen on a free transfer after only four appearances for the East London club.

A truly bizarre piece of business from a manager now so well-renowned for his shrewdness in the transfer market.
