15. Talked Himself Into The Book

You might be among the many millions of football fans who, having heard the commentator assert that a player has "talked himself into the book", leaps up and screams at the television: "he broke the guy's leg!". For despite the fact that a career-ending challenge has just been committed live on television, the number one cardinal sin in a commentator's book is talking back to the referee, hence they will unfailingly insist that, if only the player had kept his mouth shut, he'd have escaped with a slap on the wrist. Every sane person in the world knows this not to be true, therefore this cliche must die.
