In the first half, Newcastle were barely tested. It was mostly a one-sided affair that Mbemba must have thought would result in the easiest afternoon of his Newcastle career. Perhaps that lethargy led to a second half with him gifting an early goal to West Ham United to get them back into it. His through ball to the Hammers forward Nikica Jelavic wasn't as bad as Wijnaldum's the week before which gifted Troy Deeney a goal at Watford, but the result was the same - conceding from a needless position where putting it in the stands, albeit unpretty and groan-inducing, a least would have been the sensible thing to do. Hell, Mike Williamson somehow fooled the Newcastle coaches into believing that he was a steady defender for his 100+ Premier League appearances by performing that same act. To be fair to Mbemba, he recovered well and the extra pressure that was brought on the defence because of his error, he dealt with fine. Just next time lad, put it out!
