5 Heroes & Villains From Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal

4. Yoan Gouffran

Probably the most frustrating player in Newcastle's ranks, it's still easy to see why Yoan Gouffran ends up on so many of Newcastle manager's team sheets. He's pacy and will run tirelessly off the ball to try and win back possession and few opposition attacking players get past him before he catches up with them and makes them stall their dangerous play, or better lose possession back to him. But then is hard-work and breaking up the play enough to warrant a place in the Newcastle midfield when he offers so little creativity on the ball? On this display, probably not. His unbelievably tame effort towards Arsenal 'keeper Ospina when free on the penalty spot with the whole Gallowgate goal gaping and everyone else motionless after a big handball appeal, summed up his lack of punch in a game that too often got beyond him.
