5. Jon Fitch Is Being Sponsored By A Virtual Currency

"He was fitching him the entire fight" "He fitched him" and, on the rare occasion someone fighting Fitch turned the tables and used a blanketing wrestling style, "he out-fitched Fitch!" I'm not knocking the guy however. You have to go with your strengths, and what works. Fitch's style earned him a title shot against GSP. It also got him cut from the UFC the second things went south and he had a couple losses (going 1-2 in his last three fights). It's not as if Fitch was even losing that badly, and UFC president Dana White tried to play it off by saying Fitch was "on the downside of his career" - but the real reason was that his style bored a lot of "just bleed" type fans. Fitch found a new home in the WSOF, only to lose his first match. He came back with a win, and after multiple opponent changes, will face Dennis Hallman at WSOF 11 - and he'll be sponsored by a virtual currency when he does it. That's right. Marketed as more stable than BitCoin, fans were even able to crowdfund the sponsorship - which serves as an investment and could make them some money should the currency really take off. A fighter interacting with fans on this level is something very unique. It may not take off - especially given the UFC often charges an astronomical sponsorship fee to potential sponsors, scaring off many who would otherwise give funds to fighters (or the currency itself may tank) - but it's worth taking note of.
