5 Main Card Predictions For UFC 179

1. Jose Aldo (C) vs. Chad Mendes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oyo6xZXJDcw Weight Class: Featherweight If you're sold on the need for this rematch, then you're sold for this event. Otherwise... Jose Aldo (24€“1) took Chad Mendes out in devastating fashion with a knee in January 2012. Since then, Aldo has taken out Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung, and Ricardo Lamas. Mendes (16-1), meanwhile, has won five straight, four by knockout or technical knockout. Mendes belongs to Team Alpha Male, who have been on a roll of late, with the icing on the cake being T.J. Dillashaw upsetting Aldo's team mate Renan Barao to win the bantamweight title, and defending it once since then. Urijah Faber has been on a tear as well, and now Mendes gets another title shot. Is this the moment when Aldo finally loses? He's yet to lose in the UFC, and his lone loss came in 2005 outside the promotion. However, he does seem to have slowed a little in his past few fights. Edgar took him to the brink, and he didn't look to be himself against Lamas. However, Mendes seems to have Aldo fired up by talking about the champ dodging him. An angry Aldo fighting in his native Brazil is a scary prospect, and we wouldn't be against him. It will go longer this time - we're calling Aldo by decision (but we'd love an upset).
