5 Match Winners From Premier League Opening Weekend

1. Manuel Pellegrini (Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle United)

Manchester City made an impressive start under Manuel Pellegrini in the final game of the opening weekend on Monday night. They were rampant in attack from the off, even denied what look like should have been a penalty before David Silva headed the Citizens in front inside 6 minutes. Sergio Agüero look to put the game out of sight on 22 minutes with a great finish across goal past Tim Krul. The Newcastle goalkeeper had already made a number of good saves to this point to keep Newcastle in the game. But Steven Taylor's red card for a clothesline to the back of Agüero's head. Yaya Touré scored a stunning free kick before substitute Samir Nasri added a fourth. lvaro Negredo came close to adding a fifth but was ruled out for offside which replays showed was an incorrect decision. Newcastle were never in the game and rarely threatened Joe Hart's goal. Alan Pardew entered the season as the favourite to lose his job first amongst the managers and this result will not have helped his cause. Manchester City travel to newly-promoted Cardiff City next weekend as they look to add a second victory under Chilean manager Pellegrini.
