5 Reasons Arsenal Should Aim For Premier League Glory Rather Than The Champions League

5. January Signings Won't Be Eligible

By the time the Round of 16 tie against Bayern comes round, Wenger will have had the benefit of a transfer window when it opens on January 1. Depending on wh0 Wenger brings in, if anyone (but to be honest he would be foolish if he didn't), the club's success this season could hinge on the replenishment of the squad over the winter period. One problem that will come with a lot of top quality players is their ineligibility to play European football for another club due to having played already in Europe this competition. One player that immediately leaps to mind who isn't cup tied for Europe is Luis Suarez, but if Liverpool are willing to cash in on their star player they are unlikely to sell to the Gunners, after rejecting bids for the striker from Wenger in the summer. The Gunners famously made a bid of £40,000,001 for the Uruguayan forward, but to no avail, and they were left to pick up Mesut Ozil instead from Real Madrid. If Wenger is looking to get Champions League glory this season, the players he recruits in the winter transfer window will have to be carefully chosen to see if they can add anything to the club's European campaign. In light of this, it is probably worth investing in bigger and better players and concentrating on winning the league with a bigger squad, and bringing league success for the first time since the 2003/04 season.
