1. He Doesn't Seem To Know What The Problems With His Squad Are
One fundamental difference from the Mourinho of old and the present day incarnation is his demeanour with the press. the answers he gives do not appear to give anyone the vaguest sense that he knows what is wrong with his side. His tactical rigidity has meant that it is his way or no way, and he seems to lack the ability to get his players geared up for a match. Take the club's recent diabolical 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the League Cup Quarter-Finals this week. Despite selecting a squad that should have been able to deal with the north east side and give him a genuine stab at a first title this season, Chelsea looked languid and bereft of ideas going forward. They kept the ball well for long periods of the game but were let down by the lack of creativity in the side. It looked to be a classic 1-0 scrappy win for Mourinho, but the Mackems equalised with two minutes to go and then won the tie late in extra-time, with Mourinho's side providing no answers for the questions asked of them. After the game, Mourinho stated that he may be looking to change the team's style of play to a more counter-attacking system, something that would not work against club's like Sunderland where Chelsea had the ball for long periods of time. In a recent loss against Newcastle, Mourinho claimed that he had made 11 mistakes, a great sound bite for the papers the next day but it doesn't really get to the crux of the problem. The fact that his side have done the same thing time and time again this season show he has not really dealt with the problem, and the club haven't really evolved since that defeat to the Magpies in early November. If he keeps on making 11 mistakes every game, Mourinho could well find himself out of a job and the Blues will be right back where they started for the 11th time in seven years. Will Mourinho come good once more at Chelsea? Is he the right man for the job? Tell us what you think!
