5 Reasons VAR Is Ruining Football
1. It Is Cruel
What’s worse than denying a person something they desperately want? Giving it to them, then snatching it away. As a result of all the flaws discussed in this article, it has become apparent that VAR is more than just a dawdling, authoritarian, mystifying machine: it is also fundamentally evil.
Football is a very emotional game; players give their blood, sweat, and tears and fans follow them to the ends of the earth. Indeed, there is no greater pain than reaching a tournament final and watching the game slip through your fingers. Or is there? Loss is hard to accept, but infinitely harder if you know what victory tastes like…
It’s the greatest feeling on earth: that 30-second seventh-heaven of scoring a last-minute winner. In that moment, nothing else matters. But then, an O’Henry twist: the referee draws a rectangle in the air… your euphoria is blown to smithereens. It’s one thing to lose a match, but this is pure cruelty. It’ll take months to get over this. From the amount of times we have seen this happen over the last few years, it’s almost as if VAR gets off on sending tens of thousands of people into depression.
My friends, it doesn’t matter what team you support. The abolition of VAR will take back control of our beautiful game from the bureaucrats who have stolen it from us, players and fans. Let them tremble at this. We have nothing to lose but our discontentment, and an entire sport to win.
