1. Tom Daley
Everybody's favorite or least favorite diver (Okay, we don't know any more divers) came out just last month via his Youtube account when he revealed that he was bisexual and in a relationship with another man. Usually when someone comes out, not just in sport, it is something that is carefully planned out by agents and PR companies, but not this time. Daley was so laid back about it, people seemed to find it easier to adjust to and didn't see it as breaking news, just someone normal like me and you revealing that he is in love with a man. This instance was a bit different to the previous mentioned, as Daley is sometimes described as a celebrity more than an athlete, but his popularity could encourage a big named athlete out there that might just be thinking that it isn't a wise move for their career to reveal that they are homosexual or bisexual, and as previously mentioned, the odds are that there is a big name gay athlete are more than likely slim. Daley is of course training ahead of the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics Games and if the 19 year old can succeed at his third Olympics at such a young age, he can help prove to the world that being gay isn't a taboo in sport anymore and will one day just be recognised as a normality.
