5 Ways West Ham Can Avoid Relegation

1. Keep Carroll Fit

Andy Carroll has proved himself England's most feared target man, no matter what Southampton fans may tell you. The only problem is, he has spent more time on the physio bench than terrorising opposition defences. His time at West Ham was actually summed up on his debut, when despite causing Fulham all sorts of problems, setting up two goals in a 3-0 win, he picked up a hamstring strain ruling him out of impending England duty. In the end, he made 24 league appearances, scoring seven goals, but there was undoubted potential which Allardyce wasted no time in locking down. However, since the loan move from Liverpool was made permanent, Carroll is yet to play a single second of Premier League football. With him in the side there is a focal point to the attack, which Carlton Cole, for all his best efforts, was never going to replicate. Carroll's fitness is a puzzle that has caused a puzzle wherever he has been. Even as Newcastle were in the process of selling him to Liverpool for £35 m he was on the sidelines nursing a thigh injury. He didn't make his Liverpool debut until March 2011 as a result. However, if West Ham want to make certain of their Premier League status, Allardyce will make good on his promise not to rush the Geordie back into the starting 11.
