It's time for a serious look at the stats.

Chelsea's top passers this season have been in defence and the team has the lower pass success rate than Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

What has happened to the intricate midfield passing that became their trademark?

The Blues have also made the fewest defensive interceptions of any team in the league, resulting in either direct shots on their goal for the opposition or opposition counter-attacking play that leads to a goal.

Chelsea are also the second-most fouled team in the league which might explain why their play has been so staccato, even though Willian has raining in the goals from the resulting free-kicks.

Mourinho has a lot of flair in midfield but struggles with creative depth, which has he says can disappear with a lack of confidence.

Fewer mistakes lead to better chance creation which relieves pressure on defence and improves overall team confidence. From passing and tackling to shots in open play, the entire midfield needs to look at the numbers and tighten up.
