Another aspect of Chelsea's play that hasn't been typical is this season is the lack of direct play.

Chelsea's best players this season have been wingers Victor Moses and Juan Cuadrado, on loan at West Ham and Juventus respectively. They both have pace in bucketloads and are capable of giving defenders nightmares. The fact neither really shone in competitive games for Chelsea shows just how hard it is to hold down a place in the first team.

Then there's the explosive former Chelsea player Kevin DeBruyne, now at Manchester City via Wolfsburg, has picked early back page headlines too so you have to wonder what attacking options Mourinho would have if he'd been able to keep all three.

Blues fans will fondly remember the days of Robben and Duff rampaging down the wings with Lampard striding forward to finish off his fair share of chances.

It worked, it was terrifying for the opposition and it took pressure off the Chelsea defence. Today and if played correctly any three from the current crop of Hazard, Pedro, Willian and Ramires are capable of replicating such lung-bursting success.
