6 Things You Need To Know Before Bellator NYC

2. Aaron Pico Vs. Zach Freeman

Bellator have succeeded with a few debuting prospects recently, and many believe Aaron Pico is the best newcomer they've ever signed. An elite wrestler who's competed at World Championships, Bellator recognised his potential and signed him when he was just 18 years old to a long term deal. After winning a gold medal in 2013 at the Cadet World Championships, it's not impossible that you'll see Pico at Tokyo 2020, such is the wrestling talent this youngster possesses.

Now aged 20, Pico faces Zach Freeman in his professional debut. Freeman has put together an 8-2 record in his MMA career, with 5 wins by choke. Freeman is talented, but is clearly being put in there as a stepping stone for Pico. Freeman's best attribute is his his ground game, but most doubt he can cope with Pico on top.

This is being set up purely as a showcase for one of MMA's best prospects in years. Bellator have been able to hit on a few fighters who've made their pro debut with the promotion and Pico feels like a can't miss prospect. While most of those prospects have been kept on the prelims to aid their development, Pico is going straight in at the deep end, such is the hype with this kid. With UFC unable (or unwilling) to give anyone their pro debut in the octagon, their loss will likely be Bellator's gain.
