6 Things You Need To Know Before Bellator NYC
3. Michael Chandler Vs. Brent Primus
With the lightweight title on the line, this should be Michael Chandler's fight. He goes in as a massive favourite for good reason. Bellator have to be commended for the way they've rebuilt their current champion. After losing the title to Eddie Alvarez in 2013, back to back losses to Will Brooks twice in 2014 left his career at a crossroads. The promotion decided the best course of action was to give him a couple of "tune-up" fights to build him back up for another run. Winning those comfortably, Chandler was back on track and from there, he defeated Patricky Friere to win back his title.
Brent Primus just keeps on winning. 7-0 in his career with five wins in Bellator, the time may not be ideal to give him his shot given the experience gap, but it's hard to say he hasn't earned it.
This fight is going to be a classic battle between wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. Expect Chandler to try to wrestle him to the mat early and often. He'll have to be smart however, as Primus is almost as dangerous from his back as he is in top position. With Primus' first four pro wins all coming by rear-naked choke, Chandler will be wary of transitions on the ground against such a talented submission artist.
As mentioned, this should be Chandler's fight. He's far more experienced and has a smothering top game. If you fancy Primus to score the upset, then you'll get a hell of a price.
