Silva is at an age where injuries start building up, becoming more and more common - and more and more damaging. Now, without question, the broken leg he suffered at UFC 168 was something of a fluke, even if the check used by Weidman is known to do damage. That having been said, as Dr. Steven Sanders, who preformed the emergency surgery on Silva's leg following the break, said at a conference call shortly after Silva had been patched up, "injuries like this can, at times, even be limb threatening."
