8 Reasons UFC Legend Georges St. Pierre Should Stay Retired
4. Lack Of Interesting Opponents
Who is there left, really, for Georges St. Pierre to fight? It's not as if there has been a huge shakeup in the UFC's welterweight division. The top contenders remain Johnny Henricks, who GSP already defeated in his final UFC fight, Carlos Condit, who GSP has already defeated as well, Rory MacDonald, who he trains with and will not fight, and new champion Robbie Lawler - who has been around the game for many years, and has losses to a bunch of fighters (Nick Diaz, Jason Miller, Jake Shields) GSP has already defeated. Now, MMA math doesn't always work. Lawler has had an incredible late-career resurgence in the past two years. However, he's still not enough of a name to make it worthwhile for St. Pierre to come back, frankly. Anderson Silva would have been the name to do it for - but he tarnished his reputation as one of the greats in a steroid scandal, so even that fight has lost its lustre. GSP's former manager recently suggested he drop down to 155lbs for a fight with Conor McGregor - which would be huge - but realistically, that weight cut would result in a depleted GSP, and he has little to gain from beating a smaller man.
