8 Most Ridiculous Man Utd Rumours That Never Happened

2. Sir Alex Ferguson To Replace David Moyes

As David Moyes coughed and spluttered his way through his ten-month Manchester United career, it soon became obvious that he wasn't going to go the distance at Old Trafford, and a series of names were put forward to replace the ailing former Everton boss. One of which was Sir Alex Ferguson. No doubt another 'world exclusive' from the Daily Star claimed Ferguson was willing to "accept United's SOS call" and step back into the breech despite the fact he had called retirement on his managerial career less than a year earlier. Some bookmakers even gave odds on Fergie to replace Moyes at just 2/1. Ferguson, who remains a director at the club, decided he'd much rather sit upstairs than take to the dugout again, and Louis van Gaal was appointed as Moyes's successor earlier this summer.
