8 Sports That Desperately Need A Rule Change
4. Hanging On The Rim - NBA
A fairly basic rule to grasp here. Within NBA, technical fouls are broken down into two categories: the ones which are unsportsmanlike, such as the use of profanity, and non-unsportsmanlike, such as a delay of game.
A player may come under the technical foul of "unsportsmanlike" if they hang on to the basket and use it as interference with either a field-goal attempt or possession of the ball (the one exception being if they're trying to avoid injury to themselves or another player).
The rule is very subjective and the punishment for it seems to vary upon every instance it's happened. Many players over the years have come under scrutiny for hanging on to the basket for a fraction too long when it is simply so that they don't give themselves an injury.
The rule should be eliminated entirely as it is difficult for the referee to make a judgment on. Furthermore, hanging on to the rim is such a fatuous rule, that is doesn't deserve penalty. Most players do it to save an injury or out of simple spontaneity.
