8 Sports That Desperately Need A Rule Change
5. Kneeing A Downed Opponent - MMA
Like all combat sports, mixed martial arts has a strict set of rules to comply with, varying from time limits, judges, deciders and equipment. The regulations of the game have evolved over the years, which means certain fighting tactics have been banned from the gameplay as they are considered too dangerous or perhaps cheating.
Some of the illegal moves have been left up to interpretation and often cause confusion. The most commonly broken rule is the illegal move of hitting your opponent with your knee if they are in the downed position. The mistake usually roots from the split-second decision a fighter must make as to whether their opponent is in fact downed or not. Also, some players have their vision obstructed and can’t tell if their fellow fighter has raised both hands off the canvas or not.
It's a rule which needs revising as it lacks clarity and is often misinterpreted.
