8 Sports That Desperately Need A Rule Change
1. Handball Law - Football
The most recent rule to be introduced into the realm of competitive sports and one that has caused numerous arguments. The IFAB (International Football Board Association) have revamped the rules on handball in football. The way the law has been written means any contact between a defender's hand and the ball is called for a penalty by the VAR.
Players have been getting penalised for the ball contacting their arm/hand, despite not being able to physically avoid it. Crystal Palace's game against Everton fell victim to this clunky new rule. Everton were awarded a penalty after Lucas Digne headed down the ball in their opponent's box, and it caught Joel Ward on the wrist, therefore ruled as a handball.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson spoke out about the new rules, saying that it is 'ruining' the game of football and is 'unacceptable'. And he's not alone as virtually all players, referees, fans and managers have complained about the Premier League's new handball rules.
It is possible for the IFAB to reconsider changing the handball rules again. However, it won't come into operation any time soon, leaving the troublesome new rules on handball to remain in place.
