9 Sports That Should Be Olympic Events

5. Sepak Takraw

Also referred to by the slightly easier to pronounce name of kick volleyball, Sepak Takraw is a sport that originated from Malaysia, and has become increasingly popular across South-east Asia in recent years. The game bears many similarities to regular volleyball, with the most obvious difference being the fact that players are not allowed to use their hands or arms to handle the ball, meaning that they must instead use their feet, knees, heads and other body parts. This rule results in some acrobatic feats, as players twist and turn their bodies in order to get their legs into optimum position. As a sport that requires such intense flexibility and athleticism, as well as being completely different to any other Olympic sport, Sepak Takraw definitely deserves consideration.

4. Tug-of-War

As with many other events on this list, there is a precedent for including tug of war in the Olympic line-up, as it was contested at every games between 1900 and 1920. As with arm wrestling, there€™s something strangely primal and compelling about watching teams of grunting men (and women) attempting to pull each other into a trench full of mud. This would be another event for the crowd to really get behind, and various weight categories would ensure that there was plenty of variety to the competition.
