Ronald Koeman has pedigree: after a stellar playing career, he guided Ajax to the Eredivisie crown in 2002 and 2004 and then did the same with PSV Eindhoven in 2007. After winning the Copa del Rey with Valencia in 2008, Koeman experienced a brief dip in managerial fortunes whilst in charge of AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord before reviving his career with Southampton, leading England's south coast club to their highest Premier League position of sixth and with it qualification to the Europa League group stages.

The Dutchman is schooled in Johan Cruyff's football philosophy from his brilliant playing days at Ajax and Barcelona amongst others, plus he has the added experience of managing in the Premier League. Whether he would leave his current employees, Everton, after a solitary season is another matter, but Arsenal would be a different prospect entirely.
