Best Premier League XI Ever
Right Back: Gary Neville
Not the most popular player, Gary Neville has become more endearing as a pundit. His short managerial career was marred by a language barrier, but on Sky Sports he displays the insight for the game which made him irreplaceable down Man Utd's right side. As a right back, he was as unglamorous as they come, but with eight title wins, nobody comes close to him.
Having made his debut in the 1993-94 season, Neville went on to feature in another sixteen league campaigns for Man Utd, gelling well with both David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo out wide. Frequently found on the overlap, he wasn’t that quick or skilful, but he could make space for his wingers and pick out a cross when called upon.
England’s most capped right back ever, Neville did all the simple things exceedingly well and left the more difficult technical elements to the extremely talented players in front of him.
He hasn’t absolutely nailed down this spot like others in the team, but a lack of real competition sees him safe. There’s only Pablo Zabaleta and Lee Dixon challenging him, with right back/centre back Branislav Ivanovic behind them. None of them can take this spot off Neville.
