Chelsea 3-1 Southampton: 5 Things To Consider

2. Saints Stalling - Have Southampton Come Unstuck?

Sunday's result meant it was back to back defeats for Pochettino's men after going the previous 8 games without defeat. Last weeks defeat against Arsenal was the first time they had conceded more than a single goal, and they went one better than that against Chelsea. Pochettino will be especially disappointed with the manner in which the goals were conceded, describing them as 'soft' in his post match comments. It was all too easy for Cahill and Terry to find the target from set pieces for the first 2 goals and Ramires was allowed to waltz through a couple of half challenges before providing Ba with the chance to score the 3rd. In fairness to them, few sides would expect to come away with much from away trips to Arsenal and Chelsea, but after such a promising start to the season, Saints fans dared to dream. This is their first mini setback and it will be interesting to see how they respond. With two home games coming up against Aston Villa and Manchester City, Pochettino will be hoping he can get his team back to winning ways. As the season progresses there is a danger that teams will find a way to play against Southampton, who would be regarded as the surprise package of the season so far. This result will give others encouragement and Pochettino food for thought.
