Chelsea Transfers: Debunking 5 Ridiculous Summer Rumours

4. Wesley Sneijder

sneijder3_UMEXQ On June 15th, Wesley Sneijder was on his way to Chelsea, according to the Mirror. By June 16th, the rumour was quashed. "Wesley Sneijder to Chelsea" was a short-lived transfer titbit that ran out of steam before it had gathered momentum. Yet Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal fanned the flames by urging the Blues to sign the former Inter Milan man, and warned that the midfielder's World Cup aspirations next summer could be in jeopardy unless he moved, and that didn't help matters. The notion of the Dutchman leaving current club Galatasaray just six months after joining was ridiculous enough on its own - after all, the Turkish side did rescue him from his Inter misery after the Italian club banished him over a wage dispute. You'd think then that the star would owe Galatasaray more than six months of his time, and the player admitted as much last month when he said:
€œI want to play till January at least and help my team. I love Istanbul so much. €œI€™ve met a new country and a new culture. It would not be easy to leave and turn my back (on Galatasaray). €œMy club have expectations of me. The board worked so hard for my transfer. €œI can€™t go anywhere because I owe them.€
