Conor McGregor V Floyd Mayweather Super-Fight: 5 Positives & 5 Negatives
2. Boxing May Never Recover If Conor Wins
Despite that, boxing absolutely has it all to lose in this fight. McGregor could easily lose this fight in a lop sided decision, and as long as he doesn't look like a stumbling idiot who is completely out of his depth, MMA will be just fine. But what if Conor McGregor actually wins? It's a potential apocalypse scenario for boxing.
That's not to say that boxing would die, but if (and it's a big if) McGregor goes in and knocks out the best defensive boxer of all time, then it brings the sport to its knees.
This is not a fight that McGregor should be competitive in on paper. Sure he absolutely has the attributes to cause Floyd problems, but 99 times out of 100, this is a fight that Mayweather should win and win comfortably. Mayweather can become the first fighter to gain his 50th professional win without a loss on his record, beating the legendary Rocky Marciano's record.
If an 0-0 boxer from another sport comes in and upsets one of the best ever with history on the line, boxing will never ever hear the end of it.
